Take Action Now: Protect Funding for Illinois Public Media
The Situation is Urgent:
Immediate Impact: Failure to distribute approved federal funding for public media will hurt our ability to provide essential local news and community engagement and exceptional state, national, and international programming.
$1.5 Million in potential cuts: Our WILL stations currently receive around $1.5 million annually from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. This is about 20% of our budget, and the foundation from which we can raise additional funds.
Why This Matters:
Future of Programming and Local News: Reduced funding jeopardizes Illinois Public Media’s ability to provide our community with unparalleled local news, music and cultural programming, unmatched educational content, and much more.
Student Careers: As part of the College of Media, Illinois Public Media has a long history of providing professional experience and real-world education to University of Illinois students. These cuts would limit our ability to train future media professionals.
Lifesaving Alerts: Public media stations nationwide provide important public safety communications during natural disasters and other emergencies.
What You Can Do:
Urge Congress to Act: Contact your representatives to keep already approved federal funding for all of public media and prevent further cuts.
Share Your Story: Share your story about how important Illinois Public Media is to you and your family to amplify the message.
Spread the Word: Encourage friends, family, and colleagues to join in advocating for the future of funding for public media.
How to Share Your Story:
Write a Testimonial: Describe how public media has impacted you or someone you know.
Use Social Media: Share your story on platforms like Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn using #ProtectMyPublicMedia.
